Ms Lyn Hollow

Lyn Hollow is the Principal of the Maningrida Community Education Centre, however she is currently on leave from this position to work with the Capability Development Unit in Darwin for a short period.

Lyn has been the Principal of Maningrida CEC for three years, and has lived and worked in the Northern Territory for the past 19 years. She has worked as a classroom teacher, Curriculum Advisor, Assistant Principal, Project Management, and School Principal.

Maningrida is situated in Arnhemland in the top end of the Northern Territory. Maningrida CEC caters for students from preschool to Year 12 and also services 13 Homeland Centre Schools. Over 16 indigenous languages are spoken in the community. Two languages have been chosen as languages of instruction in the school.

Over the past three years the staff of Maningrida CEC have focussed on more effectively informing parents about all aspects of the school. The school relies on multimedia to take information into the homes of students. The school has a TV and Radio station and all teachers at Maningrida report directly to parents electronically using PowerPoint presentations. It has been a difficult journey incorporating electronic reporting into the assessment and reporting practice of the school but teachers at Maningrida consider it well worth the effort. Electronic reporting has led to greater understanding of what goes on at school and closer ties between home and school.
