Mark Merry, Principal, Marcellin College

Mark Merry is the Principal of Marcellin College, a Catholic Boys’ school conducted by the Marist Brothers in Bulleen, Victoria. The college educates 1200 students in Years 7–12 living in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Mark has been principal for the past four years having held the position of Deputy Principal for nine years in other Catholic schools.

 

Mark began his career in 1985 teaching History and Legal Studies and has taught educational psychology and classroom management in the tertiary sector. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at La Trobe University with a particular focus on enhancing learning opportunities for boys. During his time at Marcellin, Mark has led the implementation of a strategic plan which has been the catalyst for significant structural, policy and operational change at the college. The strategic plan has led to improved educational outcomes for students and an enhanced learning culture.

 

Mark is a member of the Associated Heads of Independent Schools of Australia and Marcellin is a member of the Associated Marist Schools of Australia and the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria. Marcellin College is recognised for the richness of its faith education and its sense of community nurtured through the House pastoral care system. Mark’s vision for the college is to build on these strengths by fostering commitment to greater learning opportunities from all members of the community.
