The Next Step 2007 report documents the results of the third state-wide survey of the destinations of students from government and non-government schools across Queensland who completed Year 12 in 2006. The survey results show the initial study and work destinations of young people after completing school. Understanding Phonics and the Teaching of Reading

Kathy Goouch, Andrew Lambirth

Debates about the teaching of reading and particularly which phonics method teachers should use have been simmering for many years. This book offers critical perspectives on the teaching of reading and phonics, openly challenging contemporary policy in both England and the USA. Each chapter explores the processes involved as children engage in reading from their interactions with texts in the very earliest stages through to the primary phase. The book draws on both research and theory, and combines academic perspectives with the insights of parents and practitioners. Adapted from publisher's description.

Guy Cook
Routledge,  2007

Advertising is one of the most prominent, powerful and ubiquitous contemporary uses of language. The study of advertising brings together many of the key social and political issues of our time: the new capitalism; globalisation; overconsumption and the environment; cultural and individual identities; and the communications revolution. It provides insight into the ideologies and values of contemporary societies. This new four-volume Routledge Major Work brings together for the first time the most seminal and controversial works in advertising discourse analysis, allowing users to obtain a wide and inclusive view of the topic. Cooperative Learning: Integrating Theory and Practice

Robyn M. Gillies

Although cooperative learning is widely endorsed as a pedagogical practice that promotes learning and socialisation among students, teachers still struggle with how to introduce it in their classrooms. This text highlights the strategies teachers can use to challenge student thinking and scaffold their learning, as well as the strategies students can be taught to promote discourse, problem-solving and learning during cooperative learning. The book links theory with practice through numerous case studies and small group exercises and incorporates the latest research on cooperative learning. Adapted from publisher's description.
