Curriculum Work as a Public Moral Enterprise

Rubén A Gaztambide-Fernández, James T Sears
Rowman and Littlefield, March 2004

A collection of essays discuss theory and practice in the current curriculum, stressing how theory can be developed by practice. A number of case studies address teaching theory and practice in various contexts, such as working with homeless youth, learning through theatre, and antiracist pedagogy in schools. Each case study is explored by an academic writer and practitioner, and offers theoretical and practical views. Personal, structural and discursive challenges, benefits and management strategies are highlighted. The first two chapters cover the development of curriculum theory from the 1800s to the present day.
