We educators regard the eight key learning areas in our curriculum frameworks as a given, and forget that it is an arbitrary list, an approximate attempt at headings for all we think children should learn at school. The article calls for more attention to the critical study of religion; both in natural inclusion in SOSE and as a ninth learning area. It is vital in the post 9/11 world to understand the faith and motivations of people next door or around the globe.
