Project proposal summary
Middle Schooling is traditionally a time of disengagement; we aim to develop programs and resources which link values and values education. Vales are vital at this stage of learning, with the pedagogy of Service-Learning, which promotes all the basic tenets of Middle Schooling. Service-Learning utilises reflection as an integral part of any project. This is a methodology which will assist Middle Schoolers in developing their values systems: (eg students can reflect upon and talk about what it means to have individual and societal responsibility; how trust is generated and why it is so important and what justice really means). US research supports inextricable links between values education and service-learning and we are encouraged by counterparts in the US to continue to link them in partnership for our students.
