Project proposal summary
The focus of this project is to implement Philosophy in the Classroom across a P–12 school cluster and develop a learning framework to align philosophical classroom discussions to the nine Values for Australian Schooling.
Project objectives:
- Promote awareness of The National Framework for Values Education (2005) as they relate to classroom practice;
- Engage parents/care givers and community groups as partners in this values education project;
- Provide an opportunity for staff, students and parents/care givers to clarify values and beliefs that underlie practices and identify values to be fostered through Philosophy in the Classroom program;
- Skill teachers in implementing Philosophy in the Classroom and engage them in a reflective process involving mentoring and collegial coaching;
- Build student social skills and ethical responsibilities by engaging them in philosophical discussions within Philosophy in the Classroom lessons;
- Develop a whole school P–12 integrated learning framework that will align philosophical classroom discussions to the Nine Values for Australian schooling.
